Japan bans all Indian mangoes import orders

Japan suspends Indian mango imports over failed VHT preservation processes.

In Northern India (Rehmanpur, Uttar Pradesh), Japanese quarantine officials have deemed mango preservation processes insufficient, resulting in the suspension of all Indian mango import orders starting March 25, 2026 1.

One of Japan's fresh fruit import regulations requires Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) to eliminate the risk of fruit flies entering Japan's ecosystem.

Fruits requiring VHT include: papaya, mango, mangosteen, lychee, and dragon fruit 2. Please take note! Review your food preservation processes before exporting to strict markets like Japan!
